Library Card and User Account

The library card entitles you to access all USL services. This website contains all information on applying for a new and renewing your existing library card plus details regarding your user account.

To get your library card, please take the following four steps:

  1. Fill out the online form and click Submit.
  2. The loan department will subsequently send you an email with your library card user number and important information.
  3. Afterwards you can log into My account1 by also setting a password.
  4. Pick up your library card from the responsible loan department at the Main Library or MNL Branch Library.

To register, all users must show their ID card or passport together with confirmation of registration with the Bonn authorities.

The following group of people must  additionally present:

To log into your user account, go to My account1 on the bonnus search portal and enter your USL user number, which you can find on the back of your library card. Your user account also holds your personal information such as address, date of birth, email address, where applicable, and the expiry date of your library card. 

Forgot your password?

Simply click on Forgot password13 on the login page. You will receive an email with your new password after entering your USL user number. If it is not possible to request a new password, e.g. because you did not indicate an email address when registering for the first time, please email leihstelle@ulb.uni-bonn.de

You can pay outstanding late fees and interlibrary loan fees by bank transfer. Please use the following bank details14.

It can take up to a week from the time of the transfer to the receipt of the fee at the USL.

No, using and borrowing books is free of charge. Fees are only charged for additional services such as interlibrary loan, overdue or lost items.

The library card is usually valid for 1 year. After that, it must be renewed15.
Special rules apply for University of Bonn staff.

Please notify the loan department of your loss immediately, via phone or e-mail. You are personally liable for any actions resulting from unlawful use of your library card that was lost and not immediately blocked.
