Romance Studies Information Service (FID) to be funded through 2027 Romance Studies Information Service (FID) to be funded through 2027

The Specialized Information Service for Romance Studies (Forschungsinformationsdienst, FID) will be funded for another three years! Just in time for the end of the year, the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) has approved the renewal proposal that was submitted in April.

This will enable the USL Bonn, in proven cooperation with its project partners at the SUB Hamburg, to continue to provide specialized literature in all media forms for Romance Studies research throughout Germany from 2025 to the end of 2027, to offer comprehensive research-related services and to keep the traditional Bonn Special Collection on Romance Studies up to date and alive for research.

Aims and priorities for the new funding period

The projects for the next funding period build on previous work and successes, but also include a number of pilot projects. The main focus is on:

  • Collection and provision of primary sources: from novels, poetry collections, and plays to comic books, screenplays, and feature films.
  • Providing special research literature: in both print and electronic formats.
  • Supporting researchers with services for literary research and open access publishing.
  • Collaboration and networking: Collaboration with romanistik.de, the NFDI consortium Text+, and relevant subject bibliographies (all linked sites are in German).
  • Pilot projects in the areas of AI, automated indexing and digitization with international cooperation partners.

All services of the FID Romance Studies are available on the web portal fid-romanistik.de. In addition, the FID informs about current developments and initiatives on romanistik.de, on the Romance Studies Blog, on Mastodon and on Bluesky.
