The European Championship is on! On 14 June 2024 at 9pm, the ball was kicked off in Munich's Allianz Arena. To mark the occasion, we have taken a look through our stacks and are pleased to present you with a colourful compilation of football literature.
Our selection of literature (only in German) describes amateur and elite sport in regional, national and international dimensions, in history and in society. It looks at football as a cultural phenomenon, as an economic factor, as an inspiration for poets, thinkers and humourists - and, of course, as the subject of scientific research in a wide range of disciplines.
This diversity stems from our core mission as a state and university library. We therefore display deposit copies, regional literature and acquisitions of academic publications. Although most of the material is in German, the exhibition provides an interesting insight for all visitors.
To all 24 participating nations, we wish you a European Championship in 2024 "united by football"!
